Tongyi Lingma vs Github Copilot
As LLM usage prevails in many places, one of the popular use cases is the AI Coding assistant.
GitHub Copilot is now kind of the strongest one, though. There are a lot of competitors that are coming with better functions.
Who provides the service?
Alibaba Group Holding’s cloud computing unit has launched an upgraded version of Tongyi Lingma, a smart coding assistant powered by the Chinese internet giant’s large language model.
GitHub (a Microsoft subsidiary) and OpenAI launched GitHub Copilot, the first modern-day AI copilot, in 2021. Over time, GitHub Copilot has evolved from basic coding assistance to a next-gen AI copilot for the entire development lifecycle.
Where are those trained?
While Github Copilot transparently tells it has been trained in the public repositories (mostly in Github), we don’t know how Tongyi Lingma gets the open-source code and which base it uses.
GitHub Copilot is trained on all languages that appear in public repositories. For each language, the quality of suggestions you receive may depend on the volume and diversity of training data for that language.
The AI programmer’s launch follows the introduction of Tongyi Lingma, which is powered by the Tongyi Qianwen LLM and trained on open-source code.
