Cloud Skills gap for banks
Cloud history is long and the cloud migration story is not new for all companies. However, based on the domain, there should be early adapters while there will be many late followers for many reasons like strict regulations, compliance, etc.
Financial sector companies push forward with modernization over time, and there are a lot of professionals as cloud providers out there who can provide the required technologies to meet the requirements of the banks and regulators.
While cloud migration needs to consider various factors like design, cost, security, regulation, and compliance, there needs to be more staff with cloud expertise to manage these core functions and the difficulty of recruiting the required skills in the current environment.
The complexity of cloud adaptation coupled with shortages of technical expertise leads to misconfiguration errors, one of the more common causes of security lapses.
The internal experts so-called SMEs in the enterprise who know and understand as-is set up at most among all employees are not professional on the public cloud. They might just apply the same rules to the public cloud configuration and take and admit the limitation of their knowledge. The old employees up on the public cloud topic won’t say “I don’t know how to do it” rather they will say “It can’t because of XYZ reasons”. This will bring a lot of misconceptions and security errors later.
